추석 직전 일요일, 대형마트 70% 문닫아
의무휴업 규정때문에 대목 놓쳐
올해 추석 직전 일요일(8일)과 연휴 전날(11일·수요일)에 전국 주요 대형마트 점포 중 70%가 문을 닫는다. 이마트·홈플러스·롯데마트 등 대형마트 3사(社)는 의무휴업 규정으로 인해 올해 추석 직전 일요일과 연휴 전날에 423개 점포 중 291곳이 문을 닫는다고 5일 밝혔다.

추석 연휴 바로 전날인 11일이 의무휴업일인 곳도 있다. 추석 직전 일요일은 추석 상품 매출의 15% 이상이 팔리는 대목이다.
앞서 한국체인스토어협회는 전국 시·군·자치구에 의무휴업일을 추석 당일(13일)로 변경해달라는 공문을 보냈지만, 경기도 일부 지역과 창원, 마산, 제천, 김해 등 규모가 상대적으로 작은 지자체만 휴업일 변경을 허용한 상태다.

I'm missing the point because of the mandatory closure rules.
Seventy percent of the nation's major retail outlets will close on Sunday (August 8) just before Chuseok this year and on the eve of the holiday (November 11 and Wednesday). The three major retailers -- E-Mart, Homeplus and Lotte Mart -- announced on the 5th that 291 out of 423 stores will be closed on Sundays and the eve of the holiday just before Chuseok this year due to the mandatory shutdown rules.
Under the Distribution Industry Development Act, large discount stores will close twice a month on dates designated by local governments. Most of Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu and Busan will have their mandatory holiday on Sunday, just before Chuseok. In some places, the 11th day just before the Chuseok holiday is a mandatory holiday. Sunday, just before Chuseok, more than 15 percent of sales of Chuseok products are sold. Previously, the Korea Chain Store Association sent an official letter to cities, counties and autonomous regions nationwide asking them to change their mandatory holiday to the day of Chuseok (13 days), but only small local governments such as Changwon, Masan, Jecheon and Gimhae allowed them to change their holiday.
